It is indeed a pleasure to review a collection of recordings presented in such a pleasing and professional manner. Bea B (Bea Bahr) and The Axxmann (Matt MacDermaid) have created an entertaining and exciting album. These two artists make a wonderful combination as the powerful Bea B vocals are so perfectly complimented by the guitar prowess of The Axxmann. The two met quite by accident one day at the Liberty Street Brewery in Plymouth and what followed resulted in this wonderful collaboration.
Bea B’s vocals are tight and in the groove. She is in peak form as she purrs thru slow blues tunes such as Hush Y’all and the title cut Born with the Blues. Then she belts out serious attitude on the swing number I Will Always Love You. The listener will fall in love with her voice. Hole In The Floor is a slow grinding blues song followed by an up tempo one titled Flint City Blues which, as one would expect, screams over the trials and tribulations that city can bring. Bea B hits the listener with heavy vocal passion on Crying In My Sleep, a heart wrenching number with most excellent guitar lines. New Pair of Shoes gives Bea B a chance to almost whisper many lines overlaid with multiple voices creating dramatic effect. All the songs in the collection are originals by Bea B and The Axxmann except the final track People Get Ready, the Curtis Mayfield classic. That one pays tribute to their mutual love of the Motown tradition. The Axxmann plays all the guitars in the collection with the passion of a blues man far beyond his years. Back up artists contributing their talents to this album are Rick Beardsly (bass/vocals), Marc Friedman (drums/percussion), Eric Kot (sax), Jimmy Henterly (keys), Bruce Fisk (keys), Robert John Manzetti (keys), Sam Murphy (strings) along with background vocalists Amy Heard, Leeann Akers, David Holmes and Gary Rydell. The recordings were produced by Bruce Fisk and Matt MacDermaid and mastered by Marshall Block at Real II Real productions. Bea B and The Axxmann along with everyone involved in this project should be very proud of the result. Born with the Blues is a winner. This writer is pleased to have it in his library and knows that a broad range of blues fans will feel the same. Additional Artist Info... http://www.beabandtheaxxmann.com/
