JP Soars "Full Moon Night In Memphis" (USA)

"Full Moon Night In Memphis" opens with the title Track, getting the party started in more than fine fashion. This beauty features the core band of Chris Peet (Drums/Tambourine/Bass), Todd Edmunds (Upright/Electric Bass), and of course the Bandleader JP Soars (Vocals/Electric & Acoustic Guitars/Dobro/Lap). Featured Guest, Memphis Vocalist and Harmonica player Brandon Santini makes his first of two appearances on "Full Moon Night In Memphis", heating up both Tracks with his great Harp work. One thing I quickly noticed with this album, was that it contained a lot of really fine styles, which had no problem leaving the words "Boring" and Repetitive", in the dust. Of course with all these fine styles, you would also expect to find an additionally fine lineup of artists and that is exactly what we get with, in addition to previously mentioned Brandon Santini, we are also treated to 10 more Guest artists on various Tracks, with Terry Hanck whom plays Tenor Sax on Track 14, leading the pack of amazing talent. For my 3 favorites on "Full Moon Night In Memphis", I chose Track 4 "Somethin' Ain't Right", Track 8 "Way Back Home", and Track 12 "The Road Has Got Me Down". All 3 of those Tracks are completely different in style, yet they totally fit in with the overall concept of this album. "Somethin' Ain't Right", is a 70's style Blues Rocker, and as one reviewer put it, very reminiscent of Mountain. Lots of great Guitar work with a good uncluttered feel as this one is done with the trio of Soars, Edmunds, and Peet. JP Soars Vocals, which have a really subtle rasp to them, weighed in perfectly for this style. "Way Back Home" takes us down an old fashioned Blues road with the aid of JP Soars' mastery of the Lap Guitar. Lap Guitar is certainly one of my favorite instruments to listen to and JP Soars absolutely plays a mean one throughout this beauty, my favorite of the bunch on "Full Moon Night In Memphis". You have certainly heard the statement, "and now for something completely different", and that is what we get from "The Road Has Got Me Down", a great little tune that brings out the Country in all of us. Once again, we have Soars playing Lap Guitar, which was perfect for this Blues Grass/Country style number. Brandon Santini offers up more of his Harp Prowess, but the real icing on the cake was the great Duet performance between Soars and Guest artist Teresa James, which really really hit the spot. "Full Moon Night In Memphis" finishes off in fine style with Track 13, "Lil' Mamacita", a wonderful little Latin style Instrumental, which featured Raul Hernandez on Percussion and the closing Track "Missin' Your Kissin'", a really fine Swing style number which featured Terry Hanck showing us his magic on Tenor Sax, of which we get treated to a awesome Solo performance of, around the half way mark. JP Soars also treats us to yet another one of his Guitar styles. Superb from beginning to end, I guess is the best way to describe this beauty of an album courtesy of JP Soars and his wonderful lineup of accompanying artists. JP Soars has never had a problem displaying his boundless creativity and uniqueness with his music, of which, "Full Moon Night In Memphis" certainly proves that.
