Terry Gillespie "Bluesoul" (Canada)

Just got a chance to listen to Terry Gillespie's new release, "Bluesoul", and I must admit it was not too long into the first Track, before I really started liking this beauty and believe me, that feeling just got stronger and stronger with each successive Track. To be honest, I had not intended to start this review until the following day, as I had just finished writing a review and was going to take a break, but once I put "Bluesoul" in the CD Player, to cue it up for the next day, with the intention of listening to it fully that day, the first Track really caught my attention, and then as they say, all bets were off and I just had to continue listening which quickly turned into this review.

"Bluesoul" consists of 13 great Tracks of which the last Track is a nice reprise of the first Track, adding about 1:40 to the song. All the songs, except for 4 of them, were written by Terry Gillespie and were Recorded at the 2012 Maxville Musicfest, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Joining Terry Gillespie (Guitar/Vocals/Harmonica/Trumpet), were fellow artists Peter Measroch (Acoustic & Electric Piano/Organ), Lyndell Montgomery (Bass/Violin), Wayne Stoute (Drums/Percussion) and on Background Vocals, The Toasted Westerns, which consisted of Jody Benjamin, Anne Downey, and Sally Robinson.

For my 3 Favorites, well actually 4, I chose the Opening and Closing Track "The Devil Likes To Win" and "The Devil Likes To Win Reprise", as well as Track 2 "What Would Bo Diddley Do", and Track 6 "Let's Get Together".

Opening Tracks often make it onto my Favorites list, and the opening Track for "Bluesoul", "The Devil Likes To Win", is certainly no exception. This Elmore James styled blues tune has all you need to get your ears perked and your toes a tapping. Great singing from Terry Gillespie, as well as, mighty fine Harp and Guitar work. I also really liked the clean unique sounding beats of the Bass Drum from Wayne Stoute. It is a sound you don't hear to often. The Reprise version of the song offered up an extra bit of nice Keys work courtesy of Peter Measroch.

Bo Diddley style fans will certainly love Track 2 "What Would Bo Diddley Do", which was my number one favorite Track on "Bluesoul". With the Live nature of this album, the song came across with an especially authentic feel corresponding to Bo Diddley's heyday. In fact, I am sure if Bo Diddley was still alive, he would be actually tickled pink with this tune.

Track 6 "Let's Get Together", became one of my Favorites because of the great Background Vocals of Jody Benjamin, Anne Downey, and Sally Robinson, which beautifully weaved in and out of the entire Track. Once again great musicianship from all involved, especially a another nice round of Keys work from Peter Measroch, which at one point was highlighted for nearly a minute. As always, Terry Gillespie's Vocals were amazing. Awesome Stuff...

"Bluesoul" marked the second Album I have received of Terry Gillespie's and I must say I am just as impressed with this one as the last one, even more so.

"Bluesoul", is one hell of a good album and will be getting a lot of attention and accolades, especially around award season.

5***** for "Bluesoul"... Highly Recommended and Thoroughly Enjoyed...
