 Info & Reviews

Robin Thrush Jr., is not the Real Deal, no my friends I must say that after listening to his newest Album, The Robin Thrush Jr. Band "Music City Jam - Live In The Studio", that Robin is way beyond being just the Real Deal, he is in a league all his own.

Robin Thrush Jr., is one amazing guitarist and at the age of barely 20, he more than stands his ground when being compared to the Legends that have influenced him all life, such as Alvin Lee, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Mike Bloomfield, and Many Many others.

Robin Thrush Jr., picked up a guitar at 2 years of age, and I don't think he has truly ever let it down, until a unfortunate accident left him unable to play for a year. Not one to give up, he spent that year connecting with the sounds of "The Fillmore Era Bands", and created,  "Music City Jam - Live In The Studio", as a amazingly appropriate homage to that Era.

When I first put "Music City Jam - Live In The Studio", in the CD Player, I was fortunate enough to be wearing shoes, because what I was hearing would of surely knocked my socks off. "Wow This Is Special", was absolutely the first impression to come to me.

With "Music City Jam - Live In The Studio", The Robin Thrush Jr. Band has truly taken me back to the sounds of all the greats from that amazing Blues/Rock Era of the late 60's and early 70's., and not only because of Robin Thrush Jr.'s guitar work, but also because of the unbelievable sound the band as a whole generates, with his equally talented father Robin Thrush Sr., (Bass) and Drummer Extraordinaire, David Richardson.

"Music City Jam - Live In The Studio" was a immense joy to listen to and one that I Highly Highly Recommend. WOW!!!

About The Robin Thrush Jr. Band

The Robin Thrush Jr. Band was formed in the year 2000, after the family moved to Nashville Tennessee. Musicians were recruited, with Robin Sr. switching from guitar to bass. For five years the band played as a four piece band, with no personnel changes. During this time they played various venues, including The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar, B.B. Kings, and The French Quarter in Nashville.

In 2004 the band played both The Sarasota Blues Festival and The King Biscuit Blues Festival in Arkansas. At 15, this made Robin Jr. one of the youngest to play both of these events. The band recorded two CDs during these years: "Live at S.I.R. and "Born To Play" In 2006 The Robin Thrush Jr. Band changed to a three piece unit. Robin Jr. took over most vocal duties, while continuing to play guitar. With Robin Sr. still on bass, they added drummer David Richardson to the mix. The bands third CD, "Music City Jam, Live in the Studio", was released in November of 2009.

Robin Thrush Jr. ~ Guitar ,Vocals

Born on April 27, 1989 in Roseville California, Robin is a fifth generation musician and entertainer. * Thrush family members have worked as singers, musicians, and even Vaudeville performers. Robin received his first electric guitar at the age of two, and began lessons at the age of three, tutored by his father. Due to his unusual aptitude and interest in the guitar, these lessons and jam sessions soon became a daily treat for young Robin.

Robin's musical influences are in depth and diverse, and range from the early masters of electric guitar, to the current guitar slingers. Influences include, Alvin Lee, Chuck Berry, Johnny Winter, Freddie King, Jimmy Page, Mike Bloomfield, John Cipollina, John Fogerty and Cream. Robin also enjoys listening to Classical music, Jazz, Rock, Pop, as well as contemporary artists. Robin's other interests include computers, classic cars, video games and Martial Arts. Robin has earned a blue belt in Kenpo Karate, and has more than two dozen tournament wins to his credit.

In May of 2006 a skateboarding accident severed two tendons in Robin's hand. Unable to play guitar for nearly a year, Robin immersed himself in the sounds of The Fillmore era bands. "Music City Jam, Live In The Studio" is the musical synthesis of the time he spent recuperating. We think you will agree, it was time well spent!

Robin Thrush Sr. ~ bass, vocals

Robin Thrush Sr. first performed live at the age of five, backed by Texas "Kid" Smith on a venue promoted by his father, W.E. Thrush. Robin lived and traveled throughout the south during his early years. In the early 1960's the Thrush family moved to Los Angeles, then
later to the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks to his older brother William, Robin was fortunate enough to see many of the rock n' roll stars of the fifties perform live, in their prime. Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, James Brown, to name just a few. When the San Francisco sound hit, it was off to The Fillmore, nearly every weekend. Robin has seen virtually all of The Fillmore era groups, with the notable exception of Jimi Hendrix.

Robin began playing guitar at the age of twelve, and by sixteen was playing in his first band. * In 1970 his band "Fuel" became one of the founders of the Santa Clara California music scene that later spawned the likes of Tommy Castro and others. In 1972 Robin formed the band "J.J. Moon" and worked steadily throughout Northern California and Nevada. In the middle 70's when Disco and D.J.'s killed the live music scene, Robin focused on his parallel career in the business world, while continuing to write songs and develop his art. Robin's main instrument is guitar, but began playing bass to back Robin Jr. Robin also plays keyboards and is a journeyman songwriter.

Robin's background includes: Single parent to son Robin and daughter Jacqueline, corporate vice president, student of Judo and Karate, published author, and is a survivor of the Summer of Love, San Francisco, 1967.

David Richardson, Drums and Percussion

David joined The Robin Thrush Jr. Band in 2006, and has been playing drums since his early teens. Influences include The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Yes and The Who. David's instrument of choice is Tama Drums, with Zildjian Cymbals.
